Michael Tellides was born in Alexandria, Egypt and his family originated from Cyprus and the Lezvos Islands. He attended Averofeio High School in Alexandria and completed his studies at the British Institute of Foreign Languages in Pitman, Alexandria and the Oxford College of Commerce.
He moved to Greece in the early sixties and then immigrated to Canada, where he continued his studies in Applied Social Sciences at Concordia University and started his career in radio broadcasting. He has produced and directed the CFMB 1280 Hellenic Radio Program since 1969.
Since the beginning of his career, Mr. Tellides has been an enthusiastic supporter of Greek ex-patriots and an active member of the Hellenic Community Center of Montreal. He has hosted decades of Radiothons, raising millions of dollars to support Greek schools, underprivileged children in the community, people with Autism in need of services, and natural disaster relief.
For his decades of service, he has been honored by the Government of Canada as well as the Hellenic Government. He received awards from the National Ethnic Press and the Media Council of Canada recognizing his outstanding service to the media industry. He has also received acknowledgment for his fifty years as a career broadcaster and journalist from the Hellenic Canadian Congress, the Hellenic Ladies Benevolent Society, the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal, the Hellenic Board of Metropolitan Montreal, the Scouts of Canada, the City of Montreal, several local Organizations and most recently Chomedey MNA Guy Ouellette presented the Quebec National Assembly Medal of distinction for his long contribution to the Quebec and Canadian Societies.
He has written several articles in various Canadian and Greek publications, is a regular contributor to the newspapers “The Greek Canadian News”, “Hellas News” and serves on the editorial team of the social life magazine “Emphasis.”
